USO Alaska Gold Star Week
From May 19th to May 22nd, the 2/11 Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT) successfully conducted the Spartan Memorial Week at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, AK. This significant event was dedicated to honoring our 77 Fallen Spartan Paratroopers and celebrating our Gold Star Families. Throughout the week, members of the brigade experienced strengthened cohesion and wellness, enhancing their overall resiliency.
In support of the participants, the USO and Kendall Auto Alaska graciously provided hamburgers and hot dogs to those who hiked up Gold Star Peak. Aptly named, the peak serves as a tribute to families who have lost a loved one in military service, acknowledging the tremendous sacrifices of our Gold Star Families.
This year, the hike saw an impressive turnout, with more families, friends, and soldiers joining in than ever before. Among the participants were 13 members of Gold Star Families, who attended to honor their loved ones.
We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who participated and supported this meaningful event, demonstrating unwavering support for our heroes and their families.
